Tritonia nigritigris, is a species of dendronotid nudibranch, in the family Tritoniidae,[1] that is 82 mm long. T. nigritigris was discovered by the MBARI, on Guide Seamount, which is an underwater mountain off the coast of Central California, where it was found crawling on volcanic rocks 1,730 meters below the surface, near some dead clumps of coral. Scientists gave the species name as nigritigris, which is a combination of the words "black" and "tiger" in Latin, because of its dark and light stripes.[2] A specimen of this species was collected at a depth of 1,733.4 meters below the surface, on the Guide Seamount, where other animals that were observed near it such as Keratoisis, comatulid crinoids, hyocrinid crinoids, primnoid octocorals, sea stars, bivalves, Farrea, and many members of Macrouridae.[3]
