The white-rumped woodpecker (Meiglyptes tristis) is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It was previously considered conspecific with the buff-rumped woodpecker but that is now assigned to (Meiglyptes grammithorax). The white-rumped woodpecker is endemic to Java in Indonesia where it occupies the western half of the island.[1] The current mature population is thought to be between 1,000 and 2,499 individuals, and declining due to logging, development, and agricultural expansion. Very little is currently known about its current habits, though future conservation actions should target identifying its current range, population, and habitat requirements.
