Pointillism is a Neo-Impressionist painting technique (c. 1885–1910) that uses small, distinct dots of pure color applied in patterns to form an image, which blend in the viewer's eye rather than on the palette. Pioneered by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in France, it is based on scientific color theories, notably those of Michel Eugène Chevreul.
