3-GIS, LLC is a privately held telecommunication software and services company established in 2006.[3] The company provides geospatial asset management solutions for telecommunication network planning, design, construction and management. 3-GIS uses Esri’s ArcGIS Enterprise as a base for their software.[4] Esri map services and third-party layers can be toggled to provide visual context for infrastructure data, and geocoding services are used to identify specific locations.[4] 3-GIS is headquartered in Decatur, Alabama, USA, and has additional offices in Bern, Switzerland[5][2] and London, England.[6] In 2021, 3-GIS was acquired by SSP Innovations, LLC.[5]

History

3-GIS was founded in 2006 by three former Intergraph Corporation employees: Thomas Counts, Tommy Siniard and Jerry Golden.[7] Their first company, MESA Solutions, was formed in 1996 before being purchased by Telcordia Technologies[8] in 1999 and eventually acquired by Ericsson in 2012.[9][10] The trio announced their departure in 2006 to pursue the idea of geographically modeling utility networks on a web-based thin client platform.[11]

By 2011, 3-GIS partnered with Esri[4] and GISTEC[12] and had begun marketing applications for mapping both utility and telecommunications infrastructure.[13] They had also expanded their client base to international markets.[1][2][3] In 2017, 3-GIS narrowed its focus to telecommunications infrastructure. They continue to market both on-premises mapping software installations and SaaS options.
