Blocksi is an educational technology (EdTech) company founded in 2011 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California. The company offers services such as content filtering, classroom screen monitoring, online suicide prevention, and threat detection with human expert review, aimed at alerting school officials to potentially harmful ideations.[1]

Initially focused on content filtering to eliminate distractions and ensure compliance with Chromebook usage policies in schools, Blocksi has since expanded its offerings to include classroom screen monitoring and K-12 threat detection. [2]

Presently, its all-in-one solution integrates content filtering[3], classroom monitoring, and student safety features.[4]

In addition to providing Teacher, Admin, and Delegate Dashboards for school personnel, Blocksi offers a Parent Portal. This portal allows parents to manage and monitor their children's device usage outside of school hours according to their preferences.[5]

The Product

  • Classroom management: The Blocksi Teacher Dashboard enables teachers to manage students' online activities and customize the learning experience for individual students. The interface allows teachers to view each student's screen, control content access, share and enforce tabs, and gather real-time analytics to enhance teaching methods and curriculum development.[6]
  • Content filtering: Blocksi's solution is hardware-free, non-proxy based, cloud-based, and compatible with multiple operating systems (including Chromebooks, iOS, Windows, and MacOS devices). The Blocksi Admin Dashboard provides an Administrator, Principal (Delegate), and Parent Dashboard, offering controls for comprehensive web and YouTube filtering with granular settings.[7]
  • Student safety: Blocksi employs cloud-based scanning to identify harmful content across Google Workspace. This system combines artificial intelligence (AI) with a 24/7/365 expert human review team. When potentially harmful content is detected, context-aware alerts are sent to schools or parents. This includes identification of self-harm, cyberbullying, threats, violence, sexual language, and other concerning content.[8]

Privacy

As with similar products, occasional concerns regarding privacy issues may arise. Blocksi ensures compliance with all privacy laws[9] and assists school districts in adhering to the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). It strictly monitors students' activities only when they are off the school network and does not have the capability to activate students' cameras or microphones for any purposes unrelated to direct school-related activities. Additionally, Blocksi is recognized as a trusted partner for Microsoft, Google, and Lenovo. [10]
