Casa is an American bitcoin financial services and security company specializing in private key management.[1] The company is led by co-founder and CEO Nick Neuman and co-founder and CTO Jameson Lopp.

The company's core offering is built around a multisignature wallet for Bitcoin holdings, which requires multiple digital signatures to proceed with transactions.[2]

History

Casa began as an offshoot of home-sharing startup Bedkin in 2017.[3] The company pivoted from home-sharing to working on wallet and security software for high-net-worth individuals and raised $2.1 million from venture capitals firm Lerer Hippeau, Compound and Boost VC. Former BitGo engineer and privacy advocate Jameson Lopp, joined the team in 2018.[4]

Later that year, Casa released the Casa Node, a dedicated physical device allowing users to connect to the Bitcoin network. In 2019, the company launched an inheritance planning service and a second-generation model.[5][6]

In 2020, then-CEO Jeremy Welch left the company for personal reasons and eventually accepted a product role at Kraken.[7] Casa named head of product Nick Neuman as CEO. Under Neuman, Casa discontinued the Casa Node in an effort to focus more on the company's core multisignature service.[8]
