Corgi Insurance (commonly known as Corgi) is a San Francisco-based company that provides commercial insurance for startup and technology companies. The company was founded in 2024 and received regulatory approval to operate as a licensed insurance carrier in 2025.[1][3]

History

Corgi was founded by Emily Yuan and Nico Laqua in 2024.[1] The company participated in Y Combinator that year.[2]

In July 2025, Corgi received regulatory approval to launch as a licensed insurance carrier.[1] In November 2025, the company moved into new office space in San Francisco’s Financial District.[2]

In January 2026, Corgi raised a total of US$108 million from investors including Y Combinator, Kindred Ventures, Contrary, and SV Angel.[1][3] The financing consisted of a seed round and a Series A round.[4] The company stated the funds would be used to expand coverage lines and distribution and to develop internal software for underwriting, claims, and policy administration.[4]

Operations

Corgi operates as a full-stack carrier, designing and managing insurance operations end-to-end rather than acting as a broker placing policies with third-party insurers.[1][5] The company reports using AI-driven processes for underwriting and claims handling.[3] In 2026, Corgi stated that its Annual recurring revenue (ARR) exceeded US$40 million after regulatory approval was granted to the company.[4]

Job listings for the company have stated that roles may involve a seven-day, on-site schedule.[6] Separately, coverage of San Francisco’s AI startup scene has quoted the Corgi founders describing work intensity at the company and seven-days-a-week work expectations for certain hires.[3][7]

In late 2025, the Corgi began converting the ground floor of its Financial District office into Corgi Café, a planned 24-hour café targeted to open in February 2026.[2]

Corgi's commercial insurance products for startup clients include directors and officers (D&O) liability, errors and omissions (E&O) liability, cyber insurance, commercial general liability (CGL), hired and non-owned auto (HNOA) coverage, fiduciary liability, and AI liability.[3][5] It has also described automated processes intended to support rapid quoting and policy administration.[4]
