DLR Group (Dana Larson Roubal and Associates) is an employee-owned design firm providing architecture, engineering, planning, and interior design. The firm is an advocate for sustainable design. It was an early adopter of the Architecture 2030 Challenge, and an initial signatory to the AIA 2030 Commitment and the China Accord.[1]

DLR Group, named after the founders Dana, Larson and Roubal, is an employee-owned design firm providing architecture, engineering, planning, and interior designing services. DLR group is an organization that focuses on sustainable construction and has engaged in the development of Civic, Court, Detention, Energy Services, Healthcare, Higher Education, Hospitality, K-12 Education, Retail, Sports, and Workplace construction projects since its founding. DLR adheres to the United States' LEED building design program and was an early adopter of solar hot water and geothermal systems. Initially, centered in Omaha, Nebraska, it has since grown to encompass 24 separate locations.[2]

DLR follows an integrated design model of construction and design. This involves the use of architecture, engineering, interiors, planning, and building optimization collectively when engaging in the construction of a building.[3] This additionally incorporates the building's overall sustainability and long term building lifecycle management[4]

History

In 1962, Irving Dana (Irv Dana) formed Irving R. Dana and Associates in Omaha, NE. The company would then operate for 4 years until closing down, where its resources were then moved to a new project.[5] DLR Group was founded in Omaha, Nebraska in 1966 as Dana Larson and Roubal and Associates. The name would be shorted to DLR Group in 1998. The founders were Irving Dana and Bill Larson, both architects, and engineer Jim Roubal.[6] The business was officially incorporated on April 1st, 1966 in the basement of founder Irv Dana.[7]

In 1978, DLR Group implemented an employee stock ownership program, which resulted in the firm becoming 100% employee owned in 2005.[2]

DLR Group was ranked #1 in ARCHITECT's Top 50 ranking of U.S. design firms in 2012.[8] The firm is led by CEO Griff Davenport, FAIA.[9]
