GANCube (short GAN, named after fonder Gan-Yuan Jiang) is a Twisty puzzle manufacturer, that is known for designing and producing expensive high quality innovative Rubik's Cubes for Speedcubing. Because of their prices and design, it is sometimes compared to Apple.[1][2] GAN invented many new features to the Rubik's Cube hardware, e.g. the GAN Elasticity System GES, interchangeable magnets, magnetic core and MagLev. GAN sponsors many top level speedcubers such as Feliks Zemdegs and Max Park, who are sometimes called GAN GURUs. GAN GURUs use GAN Cubes in competition to promote GAN products.[3]

History

Gan-Yuan Jiang, a Chinese speedcuber, who won the Guangdong Open 2007, the first Chinese competition, recognized by the World Cube Association,[4][5] released his first Rubik's Cube in March 2011. In the following years he improved the quality of the cube and in 2014 he founded the GANCube company. Since then, GAN has released many high Quality Speedcubes, that are considered some of the best and most innovative Speedcubes.[6] In 2015 GANCube gained a lot of popularity, after Feliks Zemdegs changed his Main to the GAN357.[7]

Products

Ganspuzzle Series

In March 2011 GAN released his first puzzle, the Ganspuzzle I. It had a stickerless design and a high turning speed at the time, but it had problems with interlocking and popping pieces.

The Ganspuzzle II released in May 2011 improved upon these problems.

In August 2013 the Ganspuzzle III was released. It is the final release of the Ganspuzzle Series.

GAN356 Series

In March 2014 the GAN357 was released. It is the precursor to the 356 Series and was named 357, because it had 3 layers and was 57 mm wide. It fixed the problems of the Ganspuzzle III by enlarging the edge bases. The cube was characterized by smooth turning.

The GAN365, released 2015, is the first cube of the 356 Series and has great corner-cutting for that time. Also, it is the first cube to have screws in every piece.

The GAN356 Series introduced many innovative hardware features. Many world records were set with these cubes. In the following, the most important Cubes from this series are covert:

The GAN356 Air, released in August 2016, was the first Cube with the GAN Elasticity System GES, which made it possible to swap springs to adjust the compression.[8]

The GAN356 Air UM, released in January 2017, is the first mass-produced magnetic 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. It has an improved GES with more interchangeable strings.[9]

The GAN356 X, released in October 2018, is the first cube with interchangeable magnets. The GAN Magnetic System GMS allows changing the edge magnets. Another new fetcher was the GES+, that allowed tool-free string compression.[10]

The GAN356 XS was released in 2019. At 68 grams, it is one of the lightest speedcubes. It is known for its effortless turning and for being one of the best cubes of its time.[11]

Latest releases

GAN11 M Pro was released in October 2020 and marked the ending of the naming scheme as described above. It is the first cube to have a magnetic core. It has adjustable corner magnets and is one of the lightest cubes on the marked.[12]

In October 2021 the GAN12 MagLev was released, the first cube with the MagLev system, that replaces springs with two repelling magnets.

GANs latest release is the GAN13 MagLev.

Other Puzzles

Since 2018 GAN is releasing non-3x3x3 puzzles in an increasing rate. In May 2018 the Gan460 M, GANs only 4x4x4, was released, GANs latest 2x2x2 is the GAN251 M Pro, released in May 2021. It has core magnets. In 2019 the GAN Megaminx M was released. The GAN Pyraminx M is very fast and light (64 grams), has a magnetic core and the new Core Positioning Magnetic System, that makes the pyraminx stable, through the position of the core in relation to the magnets in the pieces.[13] The GAN Skewb M also has a magnetic core, the Core Positioning Magnetic System and is soft and light (79 / 81 grams).[14] The GAN Mirror M is the first mass-produced magnetic Mirror blocks.[15]

Other products

GAN produces lubes, mats and back for Rubik's Cubes. Also, it produces backpacks with a slot for cubes and notebooks with pages for writing down CFOP algorithms. The GAN Robot is a robot, released by GAN, that is capable of solving the GAN356 i (a 3x3x3 Bluetooth enabled speedcube with smartphone connectivity).[16]
