Hogg Robinson Group is a corporate travel management company. Its brands include HRG, a global corporate travel management company and eWings.com, a travel management company, for small to medium sized companies.[1] It is a subsidiary of American Express Global Business Travel.

History

Hogg Robinson Group wholly acquired Spendvision in March 2012,[2][3][4] before rebranding it as Fraedom in May 2015.[5]

Fraedom was acquired by Visa in February 2018.[6] Hogg Robinson Group was founded in 1845, by brothers in law Francis Hogg, a young wine merchant, and Augustus Robinson, an insurance broker.

The partnership developed mercantile and insurance interests from offices in Birchin Lane in the City of London. Its travel business was established after World War II, and by 1984, was one of the four largest travel agency operators in the United Kingdom, and included the Wakefield Fortune and Blue Star chains as well as the Hogg Robinson shops.[7]

The retail division was sold to Airtours in June 1993, and merged with Pickfords Travel, acquired by Airtours from Pickfords in September 1992, to form Going Places.[8] The company announced its delisting in July 2018.[9]

In March 2018, an agreed takeover by American Express Global Business Travel was announced, at a near 54% premium to the then share price, for £393.1 million; along with an agreement to sell Fraedom, its payments technology business, to Visa Inc for £141.8 million.[10][11][12]
