History
Ideanomics, Inc. is a global company focused on facilitating the adoption of commercial electric vehicles and developing next generation financial services and Fintech product. The firm operates through the Mobile Energy Global (MEG) and Ideanomics Capital business units. Its electric vehicle division, MEG, provides group purchasing discounts on commercial electric vehicles, EV batteries and electricity, as well as financing and charging solutions. Ideanomics Capital includes DBOT ATS and Intelligenta, which provide financial services solutions powered by AI and blockchain. The company was founded by Shane McMahon on October 19, 2004 as China Broadband Inc and is headquartered in New York, NY. [7]
Ideanomics has received criticism for frequently changing its name and its "promotional story", relying heavily on buzzwords and hype.[8] The company was formerly called Seven Stars Cloud Group, and before that WeCast, You on Demand Holdings, and China Broadband.[8]
In 2019, Ideanomics bought a majority share of the Delaware Board of Trade, a startup "penny stock" exchange.[9] The exchange was closed in April 2020.[10]
Most recently Ideanomics has shifted its focus from financial services to the electric vehicle sector.[11] In 2020, the company was the target of multiple reports by short-sellers questioning the existence and viability of its electric vehicle business.[12]
