Vela Trading Systems is an independent provider of trading and market data technology. The company provides market data feed handlers, consolidated market data feeds and low latency market access tools for trading venues across North America, Asia and Europe. Its clients include investment banks, hedge funds, trading technology software providers and proprietary trading firms. The company was known as SR Labs until June 20, 2016, when it was renamed Vela.[1]

History

Vela was founded as SR Labs by Srinivasan Ramiah in 2007. He was replaced as CEO in September 2014 by Lava Trading co-founder Richard Kornhammer, who left after just six months.[2] In June 2015 Jennifer Nayar was appointed CEO, who went on to spearhead the firm's rebranding as Vela.[3]

The company raised $53 million from Insight Venture Partners in January 2013,[4] which helped fund its 2014 acquisition of Wombat Financial Software and its platform from NYSE Technologies.[5][5]

Products

Vela provides a variety of electronic trading products. Its flagship market data product is SR Market Data Solution (SMDS), which has multicast (MDRC), shared memory (MMDRC) and in-process (MIPS) modes, as well as the SuperFeed consolidated market data feed. It also markets access products with integrated risk capabilities as well as Terminal Usage Optimization products, allowing clients to track and optimize their company-wide usage of suite enables firms to rationalize their use of Bloomberg, Reuters and FactSet terminals.
