Turck Vilant Systems Oy (formerly known as Vilant Systems Oy) is a privately held technology company headquartered in Espoo, Finland .

History

Vilant Systems was founded in 2002[1] by Antti Virkkunen and Ville Kauppinen. The company provides end-to-end RFID information systems for industrial customer having its focus especially in manufacturing and logistics. RFID installations provided by the company spread to over 1000 different sites in 38 countries.[2] A German family-owned company, Turck bought the majority of Vilant Systems shares in 2017 and since 2018 the company is known as Turck Vilant Systems.[3]

Growth

Vilant has been nominated as Finland's 3rd fastest growing young technology company in 2006 and Finland's 7th fastest growing technology company in 2008 by Deloitte Consulting. In 2011, Vilant ranked 18th on the same list with 5-year growth being 444%.[4][5]

Vilant has won the EMEA mobility innovations award by Motorola in 2006.[6]

Vilant Systems is co-founder and member or RFID Lab Finland. RFID Lab Finland is an industry association that brings together vendors and end users of RFID technology.[7]

In 2011, Vilant was selected as a Finalist for Red Herring’s Top 100 Europe award.[8]

Vilant has offices in Espoo, Finland, Gothenburg, Sweden, Frankfurt am Main, Germany and Bern, Switzerland. In 2011, Vilant acquired Swisscom Auto-ID Services AG in Switzerland.

Turck, a German family-owned company acquired the majority of Vilant Systems shares in 2017, resulting also to a change in the company name and since 2018 the company is known as Turck Vilant Systems Oy.

Area of business

Vilant Systems provides information systems, that make use of Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFID). The systems developed by Vilant exploit RFID technology in the monitoring of a corporate logistics processes. They enable the automation of movement transactions of transportation units in real time using RFID tags and RFID readers. Transportation units can be roller cages, containers, or different raw material units.[9]

Areas of application are:

Customers include ABB, Nokia, Sixt, Swiss Post and Helsinki City public transport / Helsinki Metro and Ahlsell

Key business partners are Microsoft, Confidex and Smartrac (formerly known as UPM RFID).
