Zipline is a drone-delivery company currently working in Rwanda (since 2016[3]) and one of the first companies in the world to be doing deliveries commercially this way .[4] Zipline designs, manufactures, and operates small robot aircraft to deliver essential medical products with a high level of safety, using many of the same approaches as commercial airliners such as feeding location data to the country's main air traffic control system[5].

Rwanda has a mountainous geography and poor road conditions making an aerial delivery system more efficient[6] as of May 2018 they have delivered over 7000 units of blood this way[7].

The zips can carry vaccines, medicine, or blood. The system works by a doctor or medical staffer at one of the clinics needs supply's, they send a WhatsApp message or log on to Zipline's order site. They are then sent a confirmation message saying a Zip drone is on its way.

The design of the electric aircraft, called Zips look like small propeller airplanes,[8] enabling them to fly fast and over a long distance (typically 150 km on a single charge), in any weather short of a hurricane, they cannot independently takeoff or land instead using an Assisted take-off and for landing they use Arresting gear.

During the delivery the plane does not land, instead it drops to a low height and the package drops to the ground slowed by a parachute-like air brake.

They plan to expand into Tanzania and America[9].
