Exploration (Tan-Suo, 探索) unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV)s is a series of very little known autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) developed in the People's Republic of China (PRC) by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Exploration 100 AUV

Exploration 100 AUV is developed by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) from earlier Explorer AUV, based on the experienced gained, and Exploration 100 AUV adopts modular design so various equipment can be carried for different missions.[1][2] Exploration AUV is a light-weight AUV designed to be easily transportable,[3][4] and can operate to a depth of 100 meter.[1] Exploration AUV is equipped with navigational system and side-scan sonar, and is powered by lithium battery.[1] Specification:[1][3][4][2]

Dolphin 2 AUV

Dolphin (Hai-Tun, 海豚) 2 AUV is a development of Exploration 100, but the developer is Zhejiang University instead of SIA.[5][6][7] Dolphin 2 AUV is primarily designed as an experimental vehicle to test our Chinese developed underwater coupling station for AUVs, and test have been successfully concluded at a depth of more than a hundred meter.[6][7] The coupling station would provide charging to the docking AUV, and at the same time, also download data gathered by AUV while it is being charged, and during the docking test, maximum power has reached 681 kW, and data was downloaded at a rate of 3.1MB/second.[6][7] Specification:[6][7]

Exploration 1000 AUV

Exploration 1000 AUV is a development of earlier Exploration 100, and it is designed to perform scientific research tasks at a depth of 800 meters.[8][9][10][11] Like its predecessor Exploration 100 AUV, although also developed by SIA, the serial production is handled by private enterprise Pioneer Hi-Tech Development Co. Ltd. (北京先驱高技术开发公司) in Beijing for better efficiency. Specification:[8][9][10][11]

  • Cruise speed: 2 kt
  • Endurance: 30 days
  • Range: 1000 km

Exploration 4500 AUV

Exploration 4500 is the further development of earlier Exploration 1000, and contrary to previous members of the Exploration series which all adopted a torpedo shaped hull, Exploration 4500 adopts a hull shape that is similar to the shape of a fish.[12][13][14][15][16] Specification:[12][13][14][15][16]

  • Beam: 1.5 meter
  • Height: 1.5 meter
  • Weight: 1.5 ton
  • Cruise speed: 2 kt
  • Endurance: 20 hours
