The Sony NW-A80x, is a series of portable media players in the Walkman range of players, announced March 2007 and released on 19 May 2007. It was the first Walkman digital player with video capabilities.[1] Initially only the NW-A806 (4 GB) and the NW-A808 (8 GB) model were released. On 13 June 2007, Sony announced that the NW-A800 (2 GB) would be included in the series.

Design

The whole body is encased with metal, and has a glass covered 2.0" LCD display. The three control buttons below the display are arranged to make up the Walkman logo in the front. Additionally, there is a chrome colored strip made of polished metal surrounding the device. Overall, the design of NW A800/810 is in the same style with Sony's preceding Walkman model, NW-A1000/3000, which did not come to sale in United States. Both of them features a surrounding metal strip and arranged control buttons. The available color for NW-A810/800 model are black, white, purple and pink in Japan.

Operation

The NW-A800 series featured a mobile phone-like user interface. Navigation is handled via three circular controls on the front of the player: a power/option key, a back/home button, and a four-way control pad surrounding a central play/pause key. A dedicated volume rocker sits on the right edge of the player The walkman contains a 2" QVGA LCD screen, of which can be used horizontally or vertically.
The interface is composed of nine icons organized in a 3X3 square. Icons will be highlighted and magnified as you scroll through them. The operation system offers searching function, letting user be able to search for a song based on artist, album, release year and genre.

This player is an ATRAC Audio Device,[2] which relies on Sonicstage program to manage music. For music management and song transfer, this unit needs to use Sonicstage.
