Yellowfin BI is a Business Intelligence Software vendor specializing in Embedded Analytics solutions headquartered in Austin, Texas.

History

YellowfinBI was founded in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, by Glenn Rabie and Justin Hewitt. The company launched with Glen Rabie as CEO. In 2008 YellowfinBI launched global operations.

As a provider of embedded analytics and BI, in 2014 YellowfinBI supplied the software behind BMC’s Remedy ITSM solution and was whitelabeled as Smart Reporting.

In 2022 YellowfinBI was acquired by Idera, a private software company with brands providing data tools, developer tools and DevOps tools. It became part of the Developer Tools BU. As part of Idera, YellowfinBI retained its brand identity.

In 2023 YellowfinBI and FusionCharts developed a joint partnership. FusionCharts will be available to all YellowfinBI customers and Yellowfin will provide a platform extension for Web Development.

Platform

YellowfinBI is a Business Intelligence Platform built on a scalable Java core with JavaScript UX. YellowfinBI works with data in existing sources, including JDBC compliant databases such as SQLServer, Oracle, Exasol, Snowflake, Redshift, XML/A compliant cubes such as Microsoft Analysis Services, SAP BW, Oracle Essbase, CSV files (which are then loaded in to a relational database), and third-party sources including applications like Salesforce.com and Google Analytics.

In 2021, Yellowfin launched a Self-Service Guided Natural Language Query (NLQ) capability. It created a hybrid of natural language and structured inputs to enable business users to access data with limited or no analytics experience.

In 2022, YellowfinBI announced a partnership with C-Data to expand the supported connection from the Platform to include direct connectivity with software applications and BI sources such as SAP, Salesforce, Oracle, and MSDynamics
