From HandWiki

MLW was established in 1995 to conduct internationally excellent science to benefit human health with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. MLW is built around excellent laboratories, strategically located in the largest hospital in Malawi, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. It is closely linked with the community and is an integral part of the College of Medicine. These relationships provide a unique opportunity replicated in few centres in Africa to study major health issues spanning both community and hospital. Since its inception, MLW has maintained partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the University of Liverpool and the Wellcome Trust. MLW is based in Blantyre with field research sites around urban Blantyre, Thyolo, Chikhwawa, Zomba, Mangochi and Machinga.
