Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF) is an Indian nonpartisan, Nonprofit organization of Cyber Security that works to build Resilience against Cyberattack and crimes. CPF closely works with several national and state governments, United Nations and Educational Institutions worldwide.[1][2][3] [4]
The Organization is registered with NITI Aayog and the member of UN Global Compact Network India.[5]
History
Cyber Peace Foundation was established in 2005 by Vineet Kumar, a former Chief Technical Officer of Jharkhand Police. CPF was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in 2013.[6] The organization was founded to build collective resilience against cyber warfare and cybercrime.[7]
From its beginning in 2013, CPF rallied tremendous support from several patrons and advisors and slowly grew in size and scale in the following years.
In January 2015, Cyber Peace Foundation collaborated with Gujarat Technological University launched e-Raksha Research Centre to fight cyber crime with the goal of establishing a peaceful cyber space.[8]
The foundation was associated with UNICEF for cyber bullying and online child safety specially during the COVID-19 pandemic.[9][10][11]
In July 2019, Data Security Council of India and Cyber Peace Foundation with the support of Google, complete a capacity building initiative for law enforcement officers on cyber crime investigations.[12][13]
In 2017, the foundation helped national Government to protect Aadhaar details of Individuals specially when sudden cases of Aadhaar Information leak increased in Jharkhand.[14][15]
Policy Research and Advocacy
CPF actively engages in technology and legal policy related research and advocacy from time to time. CPF leads policy consultations with various stakeholders and informs governments through policy briefs, comments, white papers etc. In the run to the Draft Data Protection Bill, CPF actively contributed through a series of consultations with the Punjab Engineering College.[16]
CPF also published investigative research reports about certain applications and illicit content on their platforms to inform both the platforms and policy makers for action.[17][18]
CPF has also initiated the first ever platform dedicated to Cyber Diplomacy issues across the world which brings to the forefront evidence-rich narratives and opinions from experts.[19]
Digital Inclusion and Capacity Building
Cyber Peace Foundation works towards Internet Governance and Cyber Security and involved in Research and training related to all aspects of Cyber peace and cyber security.[20]
Digital Shakti
In December 2018, The Digital Shakti campaign was launched by Cyber Peace Foundation in collaboration with Facebook and National Commission for Women. It was for raising awareness among young women about online resilience and safety. The Cyber Peace Foundation's team interacted with 60,000 women across six states in India. On Feb 2020, CPF launched the second phase of Digital Shakti Campaign with an aim to train 1, 10, 000 women across the nation.[21]
We Think Digital
On Feb 2020, Facebook launched ‘We Think Digital’, a literacy programme for women in Uttar Pradesh, India in collaboration with NCW and Cyber Peace Foundation.[22][23]
Research
Cyber Challenge India
In January 2020, the Cyber Peace Foundation and the National Crime Records Bureau together have designed CCTNS Hackathon and Cyber Challenge 2020 with the aim to enhance skills and knowledge of law enforcement individuals at ground level.[24]
eKawach
eKawach is the initiative of Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF) to implement honeypots across the country. The objective is to set up the most comprehensive public network of sensors to capture internet attack traffic and extract intelligence which can be shared with appropriate government and public agencies in the country.[25][26]
Global Cyber Challenge
Global Cyber challenge (GCC) is a journey to recognize and award young talent and build solutions to some pressing problems that our society faces. The objective of the challenge is to, both present technical challenges to identify talent and to tap their innovative approach to solving critical real-world problems.[27][28]
The first GCC event was organized in 2017 by CPF in collaboration with MeitY, Government of India. More than 2000 individuals participated in the first edition of the competition from across 52 countries. There were total 10 winners in different categories of the competition, The awards ceremony was graced by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Shri Ranil Wickremesinghe along with IT and Law minister of India Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and other Union Ministers.[29]
eRaksha
eRaksha Competition was launched in June 2019 by Cyber Peace Foundation in collaboration with NCERT. This program was focused to instill the netiquettes into the young minds. It received an overwhelming response with over 15000 entries across the country and also from UAE and Russia.[30][31][32][33]
Cyber Peace Foundation, in collaboration with NCERT and UNESCO, NEW Delhi, has launched eRaksha Competition 2020 focussed on Digital Citizenship, Online Safety and tackling fake news & misinformation.[34][35]
Collaborations
Cyber Peace Foundation collaborated with Cyber Peace Corps, Cyber Peace Alliances, Academic Institutions, and civil socity organizations. CPF has partnered with many Government and non-Government organizations to support them in Cyber Crime.[36]
In August 2019, OLX partnered with Cyber Peace Foundation for safe internet practices.[37]
In 2015, Management Education & Research Institute joined hands with Cyber Peace Foundation towards integration and sharing platform for cyber security solutions.[38]
CPF partnered with CBSE to launch the first national handbook on online safety for school children in 2020.[39][40]
In May 2020, Africa based NGO, Technology Against Crime Initiative (TAC Africa) joined hands with Cyber Peace Foundation for global fight against cybercrime, diplomacy, cybersecurity of drone, data-protection, and counter-drone technology among others.
