Organization:Mission Olchiki 2025
Mission Olchiki 2025 is a language promotion and cultural campaign launched to popularise and strengthen the use of the Ol Chiki script and the Santali language ahead of the centenary of the script in 2025. The mission includes literacy programmes, examinations, community schools, workshops, and national-level commemorative events.[1]
The campaign is part of broader efforts to commemorate 100 years of the invention of the Ol Chiki script by Pandit Raghunath Murmu in 1925.[2]
Background
The Ol Chiki script was invented in 1925 by Pandit Raghunath Murmu to provide a dedicated writing system for Santali. The upcoming centenary inspired various organisations and community groups to initiate Mission Olchiki 2025 to promote literacy and awareness of the script.[3]
Government and cultural institutions also announced commemorative programmes to mark the centenary of the script and honour its inventor.[4]
Objectives
The major objectives of Mission Olchiki 2025 include:
- Promotion of Ol Chiki literacy among Santali speakers
- Introduction of structured syllabus and examinations
- Establishment of community schools and training centres
- Preservation and digitisation of Santali literature
- Celebration of the centenary of the Ol Chiki script
Activities
Educational programmes
Various organisations conducted literacy classes, examinations, and teacher training programmes to promote reading and writing in Ol Chiki.[6]
Community initiatives
Community-based schools and volunteer-run education centres were established in several villages to teach the script to children and youth.[7]
Centenary celebrations
The Government of India officially inaugurated the centenary year of the Ol Chiki script in 2026 as part of national commemorations.[8]
State governments also announced cultural programmes and financial support to honour Pandit Raghunath Murmu and promote the script.[9]
Impact
Mission Olchiki 2025 contributed to increased awareness of the Santali language and script, expansion of literacy programmes, and strengthened cultural identity among Santali communities.[10]
