The 社寺局 (Shrines and Temples Bureau, Shajikyoku) was a bureau of the Meiji government.[1]

It was in charge of all government affairs related to religion, including shrines and temples, Tenrikyo and Kurozumikyō and other new religions.[1]

After the Ministry of Religious Education was abolished in 1877 (Meiji10), it was placed under the Home Ministry.[1][2]

In April 1900 (33rd year of Meiji), the bureau was divided into two bureaus, the Shinto shrine bureau and the Bureau of Religion Temples, Christianity and new religions were transferred to the Bureau of Religion.[1][2]
