Utkatasana

Utkatasana (/tkɑːˈtɑːsɑːnɑː/ oot-kah-TAH-sah-nah[1] ; Sanskrit: उत्कटासन; IAST: Utkaṭāsana), Chair Pose,[2] Fierce Pose,[3][4] Hazardous Pose,[5] Lightning Bolt Pose,[1] Wild Pose[6] in which the knees are hips-width apart, the knees are bent, hips are back, chest is forward, and arms are above head, in line with the ears [7]. The other possible etymology is ut+kati which means 'high waist' as suggested by madhav kayastha.

Etymology

The name comes from the Sanskrit words utkata (उत्कट, utkaṭa) meaning "wild, frightening, above the usual, intense, gigantic, furious, or heavy",[6] and asana (आसन) meaning "posture" or "seat".[8]
