AppMakr.com is a do-it-yourself platform to create content-based native mobile apps for iPhone and Android, as well as HTML5 Mobile Websites.[1][2][3][4][5] The process requires no coding knowledge and builds apps with a WYSIWYG editor.[6] It is free to use the site. It is presently owned by Appy Pie and its developer, Abhinav Girdhar, bringing their collective userbase to over 10 million users.[7]

History

Originally a side service offered by technology consulting company PointAbout, AppMakr is now its own brand.[8]

As of October 2010, apps made with AppMakr comprised approximately 1% of all apps in the Apple App Store.[9][10]

AppMakr competes with Red Foundry, Bizness Apps, Mobile Roadie and BuzzTouch.

After the company was initially acquired by ShareThis,[11] it was announced on May 24, 2013, that AppMakr would be deprecating the AppMakr service and taking the site offline.[12] However, the service was then acquired by competitor Infinite Monkeys, who have merged the platform with their existing mobile app builder.[13] The combined entity now claims to be the largest DIY mobile app publisher in the world[14] and hires employees internationally.[15]

In August 2013, Infinite Monkeys acquired AppMakr.[14]

On April 8th 2020, An employee of Appypie "VP ON-BOARDING" Joel Announced the acquirement of AppMakr with a guest post[16] on Appypie official website. Appy Pie, on a mission to democratize mobile application development by empowering anyone to build digital products, today announced the acquisition of AppMakr and Infinite Monkeys. This adds to Appy Pie’s Mobile App Maker platform, which has now become the largest no-code platform in the world. With this acquisition, Appy Pie has a reach of over 10 million end users.

Revered as a pioneer in the no-code mobile app space, AppMakr was initially launched in 2009 and at one point represented 10% of all apps in the iTunes App Store. The platform was acquired by their Singapore based competitor in 2013. Appy Pie and AppMakr have been competing for the top spot for several years, and both are thrilled to join force and bring both platforms under the Appy Pie brand.

No code app development is a progressing industry today, using the WYSIWYG model making app development quicker and more efficient. Gartner predicts 65% of all software development by the year 2024 will be done through no-code platforms. No-code app development platforms are helping users accomplish more for their businesses and communities, without any coding. This convenience and efficiency have led to a growing role of no-coding platforms in the software development industry.

Special Features

AppMakr's platform uses RSS and API integrations to power the content in a creator's app. This content may include text, images, podcasts, audio, and video. Creators can also add location-aware GeoRSS and Media RSS feeds. Additionally, the platform allows in-app HTML5 and CSS3,[17][18] which serves locally from the mobile device and can access its camera, accelerometer, and other built-in features.

Other platform features include push notifications, native photo galleries, shared calendars, live chat rooms and mobile ad network integration. The AppMakr platform partners with a few advertising networks so that creators can monetize their apps.[19]

Within the editor, creators can customize the look of their apps by designing their icons, splash screens, headers, and tab icons.[20] If creators do not want to design graphics themselves, the platform presents a database of icons to choose from and culls images from related web searches.
