Appscend is a do-it-yourself set of tools used to create content-based apps for iPhone and iPad that is handled using a web interface and a simple markup language, IgniteMarkup. With minimum knowledge of XML, developers using this markup language can build a totally custom application. The idea of this language is turning the skills of web developers into native app development skills, using any technology available.[1]

History

Appscend is the first mobile platform to incorporate In App Purchases, Layar Player, QR code scanners. More than that, through the use of a built-in API that can be used to sync push and pull data from virtually any web service, Appscend can integrate third-party services, such as YouTube, Picasa, Google Maps or Facebook.[2] Also, it offers integration with analytics services such as Flurry and Google Analytics, as well as the possibility of importing sales and ratings data from your own iTunes Connect account.

Features

Appscend offers an Amazon Web Services cloud-based CMS, an ad-server for enhanced monetization options and in-app social monitoring tools.[3]

As of January 2013, Appscend has approximately 550,000 users, 2500 customers, 300 published apps in the Apple App Store and 3500 applications in development.[needs update]
