Flood Modeller is a computer program developed by Jacobs that simulates the flow of water through river channels and across floodplains using a range of one- and two-dimensional hydraulic solvers. The software incorporates a user interface for building, running and viewing the results of models, including a GIS map interface. A free version of Flood Modeller is also available with a limited number of nodes and cells to build 1D and 2D models.

Flood Modeller is the result of 40 years of development and application, it was previously known as ISIS software. Flood Modeller 4.0 was unveiled on 19 November 2014.[1] The latest version, V4.5, was released on 7 June 2019.

Initially developed by Halcrow Group and then CH2M Hill, Flood Modeller is now Jacobs' next generation flood modelling software.

In February 2020, Jacobs unveiled the Standard edition of Flood Modeller which sits alongside the Free and Professional editions of the software.

Integrated with Flood Modeller, Flood Cloud allows users to run their simulations in the cloud to get results fast. In addition to being compatible with Flood Modeller, Flood Cloud can also run HEC-RAS and TUFLOW simulations.

Solvers

1D solvers

Flood Modeller includes steady-state and unsteady 1D solvers.

2D solvers

Flood Modeller includes three different 2D solvers:

  • The ADI solver is based on the DIVAST numerical engine first developed in the 1980s, and is designed to simulate fluvial, overland, estuarine and coastal situations where flow does not rapidly change.[2]
  • The TVD solver is designed to better represent rapid changes in the water surface profile, but results in longer run-times.
  • The FAST solver uses simplified hydraulics to perform rapid assessments of flooding.[3][4]

Flood Cloud

Flood Cloud is an innovative service from Jacobs that enables users of Flood Modeller, TUFLOW and HEC-RAS to seamlessly undertake flood risk modelling, at any scale, in the cloud. Powered by the Parallel Works platform, Flood Cloud delivers the on demand computational resource required to deliver the step change needed for better information on flooding.
