Software:MangaTranslate

MangaTranslate is an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered manga translation platform and online translation tool developed by the MangaTranslate team at Ficory LLC. The platform is designed to translate text embedded in manga and comic images into different languages using automated text recognition, machine translation, and image processing technologies.

Overview

MangaTranslate provides a web-based service for translating manga pages without requiring users to install desktop software. Users can upload manga images, select the source and target languages, and generate translated versions of the original pages. The platform combines optical character recognition (OCR), AI-powered translation, text removal, and automated typesetting into a single workflow.

The service is intended for manga readers, translators, scanlation groups, and other users who work with illustrated publications. It supports individual image translation as well as batch processing of multiple pages.

Features

AI-powered translation

MangaTranslate uses AI-based text recognition and translation to identify dialogue and other text within manga images. Users can select the original language and desired translation language. The platform then processes the images and generates translated pages.

Image processing and typesetting

The platform includes automated image-processing capabilities designed to remove original text and insert translated text into the corresponding areas of an image. Its typesetting features aim to preserve the original page layout, including speech bubbles and text positioning.

Users can also review translated images and make adjustments to text, fonts, and layout through an online editing interface.

Language support

MangaTranslate supports translation between multiple languages. Users can select source and target languages depending on the available language options and recognition models. The platform offers different processing models for manga text recognition and translation.

Batch translation

The service supports uploading multiple manga pages in a single task. This feature allows users to process larger collections of images and download completed translations.

Supported content

MangaTranslate provides specialized translation workflows for several types of illustrated publications:

Manga: Translation of Japanese comics and other manga-style publications. Manhwa: Translation of Korean comics and webtoons. Doujinshi: Translation of independently published manga and comics. Scanlation workflows: Automated translation and typesetting of scanned manga pages for users involved in manga translation projects.

Technology

The MangaTranslate workflow combines several image-processing and language-processing operations:

Text detection: Identifies text regions within uploaded manga images. Optical character recognition: Extracts text from speech bubbles, captions, and other areas. Machine translation: Converts recognized text into the selected target language. Text removal: Removes or replaces original text in the image. Typesetting: Places translated text into the image while attempting to maintain the original visual structure.

The platform also provides different recognition and processing models to accommodate different image characteristics and translation requirements.
