Software:Mydiamo

From HandWiki

Mydiamo is an encryption software created specifically to support the lack of security in open source databases. A product that was developed by Penta Security Systems Inc, MyDiamo runs on both Linux as well as Microsoft Windows and is free for download and use for non-commercial users. MyDiamo is compatible and supports MySQL, MariaDB, Percona, andPostgreSQL.[1][2][3][4] An ultimate security solution that is installed between the DBMS engine and storage engine, allowing minimum disruption at the same time maintaining high performance.[5] MyDiamo applies AES, TDES, Blowfish, RC4, AESNI[5][6]encryption algorithms.

The inception of MyDiamo started in 2011 when a team of encryption specialist in Penta Security Systems decided to bring security to the open source community users. In 2012, the product was released as an advanced encryption suit for MySQL. Through trial and constant update and improvement of various stages, MyDiamo was launched in 2013 as an engine-level encryption solution for MySQL and MariaDB.

MyDiamo offer two kinds of license, a free version (MDFL) and a commercial version (MDCL). The free version is available for downloads on the homepage while commercial requires the user to enter into a contract agreement before distributing or applying MyDiamo in any business settings.

Product Feature

Selectivity in encrypting data — Known as a leading encryption solution for open source database, MyDiamo is pragmatic and easy to apply. One of its main product features is column-level encryption. While file-level encryption is also a well-known method, column-level takes it a step further by allowing users to choose and pick specific columns or attributes to encrypt. This hugely boosts performance compared to encrypting data that does not need to be protected.

Access control — while operating system level access control is mostly available, proper access control at the DB level is hard. MyDiamo allows the set up of encryption/decryption policies which provides authorization to users.

Encryption options — column-level encryption is generally more convenient and flexible in application. Some of the options are partial encryption, hashing, etc. Partial encryption, for example, makes index searching possible as some of the original data is left unencrypted so the search function operates more efficiently.
