Photofy is a photo enhancement and sharing app developed by Photofy Inc.[1][2][3] Photofy developed a photo enhancement algorithm along with a library of licensed backgrounds, frames and personalized filters.[4]
Formation and services
The app Photofy was launched by entrepreneur Jon LaNasa and Jesse Flores in 2013.[5] The company Photofy Inc. headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina. A beta version of Photofy was launched in North Carolina in 2013. As of Sep 2014, Photofy has raised $1.6M million in seed funding round led by James Goodmon Jr.[6][7] In November 2017, John Andrews was appointed as current CEO of Photofy,[8][9] Matt Carter is president while Jason Osborn serves as CTO.[10]
The app uses photo enhancement algorithm along with backgrounds, frames and personalized filters for businesses and consumers.[11][12] Photofy enables photo-driven brand-engagement facilities for its corporate users.[4][13]
In 2015, Walgreens partnered with Photofy and released a new photo prints API integrations.[14]
In 2019, the company was named one of the Best Tech Startups in Raleigh by North Carolina State University.[15]
Controversy
According to the The Verge, "Facebook and Twitter announced that the data of hundreds of users may have been improperly accessed after their accounts were used for logging into Google Play Store apps including Giant Square and Photofy".[16] CNBC reported that the "users of photo editing apps like Giant Square and Photofy could be affected".[17] In November 2019, Photofy released a response to the controversy regarding the data breach, "No data was breached from Photofy and Photofy does not share data with any third party".[18]
