Summer Radish Vacation!! (Japanese: Summerラディッシュバケーション!!) is a Japanese eroge visual novel series developed and published by 0verflow for Microsoft Windows. The series originated as an April Fools' Day project in 2002 and later expanded into multiple commercial releases.[1]
Overview
The project began as a parody created by 0verflow for April Fools' Day 2002.[2] Following positive reception, the second title in the Radish Vacation trilogy, Summer Radish Vacation!!, was released as an event-exclusive edition on April 1, 2003.[3]
An expanded version, Summer Radish Vacation!! 1.1, featuring additional characters and gameplay elements, was released alongside the sequel Summer Radish Vacation!! 2 on August 13, 2004.[4][5] Download versions of both titles were later distributed digitally in 2009.[6]
Gameplay
The games are romance-oriented visual novels in which players read narrative text and make choices that influence branching story routes and endings. Voice acting is provided for female characters only. Later versions include CG galleries, music modes, and replay features.
Plot
Summer Radish Vacation!! / Summer Radish Vacation!! 1.1
The protagonist, Shun Hazama, leaves home during summer vacation after becoming uncomfortable living with his mother and her partner. He begins a live-in part-time job at a seaside family restaurant called Summer Radish, managed by his mother's friend Kagura Inō.
While working there, Shun meets various staff members and becomes involved in complicated interpersonal relationships tied to the restaurant's owner, Tomaru Sawagoe. Over time, he uncovers hidden connections linking many of the characters.
Summer Radish Vacation!! 2
Set several years later, the sequel follows Rideru Takatsukasa, who has grown up alongside her childhood friend Kuu Hazama.
After an argument strains their relationship, Kū begins working at the fourth branch of the Summer Radish restaurant chain. Rideru later joins the restaurant as a part-time employee and becomes involved in the events surrounding its staff and management.
Setting
The series primarily takes place within branches of the fictional family restaurant chain Summer Radish, owned by Tomaru Sawagoe.
Summer Radish (Branch No. 1)
A seaside restaurant converted from a beach house and managed by Kagura Inou. Its popularity eventually leads to franchise expansion.
Summer Radish (Branch No. 4)
Introduced in Summer Radish Vacation!! 2, this location serves as the main setting of the sequel.

Development
0verflow frequently experimented with unconventional production approaches, and Summer Radish Vacation!! was developed as a low-budget experimental title, which was uncommon in the adult game industry at the time.
According to interviews, creator Mathers Numakichi handled scenario writing, artwork preparation, and voice recording within approximately three weeks. The project's completion encouraged Overflow to pursue additional low-cost experimental titles, influencing later works such as Imōto de Ikō!.[6]

Legacy
The series forms part of 0verflow's shared fictional universe alongside titles such as Snow Radish Vacation!!, PureMail, Large PonPon, and most notably School Days. The game features the debut of several characters who later appear as the parents of the protagonists in School Days. Despite its significance, the Radish Vacation series has never been officially translated or localized outside Japan, likely due to its adult content involving underage characters and family relationships.
