Software:X-Lite
X-Lite was a freeware voice-over-IP (VoIP) softphone by Vancouver -based CounterPath Corporation. It used the Session Initiation Protocol for call management.
X-lite is no longer available or usable as of 2020, X-lite will not run, instead showing an EOL message, it also now becomes Bria Solo Free. This brings major changes, you can no longer just download the software and configure it, you configure it when you sign up - before download, this introduces major security and privacy risks, because to use Bria Solo and Bria Solo Free, you are giving CounterPath all of your private SIP login details, including passwords and exact server name. Entering gibberish in these settings will not work, as to use Bria Solo you need an external Internet connection for it to talk to their servers before it talks to your PBX, even if your PBX is an internet disconnected intranet. [1]
In September 2010, CounterPath released X-Lite 4.0, which incorporates many of the features from X-Lite 3.0 but has a redesigned user interface based on CounterPath's Bria softphone.[2] X-Lite 4.0 was launched in June 2017.
Past releases of X-Lite include: X-Lite 2.0 for Linux, which uses the old X-Pro code base, and X-Lite 3.0 for Windows and Mac OS X which uses the eyeBeam base. X-Lite 2.0 was audio only, while X-Lite 3.0 had audio, video, and instant messaging as well as being presence-capable.
In 2005, X-Lite was Internet Telephony magazine's Product of the Year.[3] X-Lite complements other non-free products offered by the company excludes certain popular features used within a company, such as call transfer.[4]
