Tomostele musaecola is a species of small air-breathing land snail, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Streptaxidae. [2]

Distribution

The indigenous distribution of Tomostele musaecola includes:

This West African species has been widely reported from the Neotropics as Luntia insignis (E. A. Smith, 1898).[1]

The non-indigenous distribution of Tomostele musaecola includes:

  • Australia[1]
  • Melanesia and Polynesia[1]
  • throughout the Caribbean Basin.[1] It was reported as Streptostele musaecola from various Caribbean localities by Hausdorf & Medina Bermúdez (2003).[1][3]
  • Dominica - introduced.[1] First reported in 2009.[1]

Ecology

This species is molluscivorous (it eats other mollusks), and its effect on the native malacofauna of Dominica is as yet undocumented.[1]
