The Institut de recherche biomédicale des armées is a restricted military medical research establishment in France, for all three armed services.

History

Before 2009, each service had its own research facility, but all three were combined as an organisation on 1 March 2009. It was formed from the Formed from CRSSA: Centre de recherches du service de santé des armées at La Tronche, IMTSSA: Institut de médecine tropicale du service de santé des armées at Marseilles, and IMNSSA: Institut de médecine navale du Service de santé des armées at Toulon.

Jean-Marc Todeschini opened the new site on 18 February 2016 at Brétigny-sur-Orge.

Structure

The director is Dominique Felten.[1]

The site is blurred on Google Maps, due to secrecy. It is next to the D19 road.

Research

It conducts research into aviation medicine, chemical warfare, and biological hazards with highly-contagious diseases, so cannot make this research public. It works with French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), CNRS, Inserm, Inra, the Pasteur Institute, Agence nationale de la recherche, Alliance nationale pour les sciences de la vie et de la santé, Direction générale de l'armement (DGA), Pierre and Marie Curie University, and Paris Descartes University.

Facilities

  • Human centrifuge (high-G training)
  • Environmental chamber
  • Hypobaric chamber (altitude chamber)
  • Biosafety level 4 laboratory
