The Engraved catfish, also called the Engraved sea catfish[2] (Nemapteryx caelata) is a species of catfish in the family Ariidae.[3] It was described by Achille Valenciennes in 1840, originally under the genus Arius.[1] It inhabits marine and brackish waters in Bangladesh, India , Myanmar, Pakistan , Sri Lanka, and Thailand. It reaches a maximum total length of 45 cm (18 in), more commonly reaching a TL of 24 cm (9.4 in).[3]
The diet of the Engraved catfish consists of finfish and benthic invertebrates.[4] Its meat is marketed fresh, as well as dried and salted.[3]
