The river catfish[2] (Cephalocassis jatia) is a species of catfish in the family Ariidae.[3] It was described by Francis Buchanan-Hamilton in 1822, originally under the genus Pimelodus.[1] It inhabits freshwater bodies and marine waters in Bangladesh, India and Myanmar. It reaches a length of 30 cm (12 in).[3]

The breeding season for river catfish is said to be between May and July.[4] These fishes usually inhabit Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia.[4]
