Forgejo (eo[1]) is a forge software package for hosting software development version control using Git as well as other collaborative features like bug tracking, code review, continuous integration, kanban boards, tickets, and wikis.[2] It supports self-hosting but also provides a free public first-party instance. It is a fork of Gitea and is written in Go. Forgejo can be hosted on all platforms supported by Go[3] including Linux, macOS, and Windows.

History

Forgejo was created as a response to shifting Gitea away from a community/non-profit ownership model.[4][5][6] The major software forge Codeberg then switched their software from Gitea to Forgejo.[7][8][9]

Forgejo is aiming to specialize the ActivityPub protocol created through the more generic work around the Fediverse within ForgeFed. An implementation of this standard in Forgejo should be available in 2024.[10]
