Aspergillus purpureus is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It is from the Nidulantes section.[2] The species was first described in 1975.[1] It has been isolated from soil in Egypt.[2] It has been reported to produce emindol SA, emindol SB, emindol SC, epurpurin A-C, sterigmatocystin, variecolactone, variecolin, and variecolol.[2]

Growth and morphology

A. purpureus has been cultivated on both Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA) plates and Malt Extract Agar Oxoid® (MEAOX) plates. The growth morphology of the colonies can be seen in the pictures below.
