Tibero is a relational database management system developed by TmaxData.[1] Since 2003, TmaxData has been developing Tibero, the first disk-based DBMS in Korea. In 2008, TmaxData became the world's second company that succeeded in developing shared-disk-based clustering technology and has provided it as Tibero Active Cluster (TAC).[2] It was listed in Gartner Magic Quadrant as a fast-growing company in RDBMS area in 2015.

Tibero is an alternative to Oracle DBMS because of its complete compatibility with Oracle functions including Oracle SQL.[3]

Tibero guarantees reliable database transactions, which are logical sets of SQL statements, by supporting Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability (ACID).[4] It provides enhanced synchronization between databases, which enables reliable database service in a multi node environment.

Tibero has implemented a unique Tibero Thread Architecture to address the disadvantages of previous DBMSs. As a result, Tibero can make efficient use of system resources, such as CPU and memory, with fewer server processes.[5] This ensures that Tibero offers high performance, reliability, and scalability, while facilitating efficient development and administration functions. Additionally, it provides users and developers with various standard development interfaces for easy integration with other DBMSs and 3rd party tools.

In addition, Tibero adopts the block transfer technology to improve TAC,[6] the shared database clustering which is similar to Oracle RAC. Through the enhanced function, Tibero supports performance optimization with self-tuning, reliable database monitoring, and performance management.[7]

Tibero is a relational model-based standard DBMS that has been developed with stable architecture that requires minimal resources from the design step. It allows to efficiently respond to big data processing, requests from massive sessions.[8] In addition, it provides a flexible and user-friendly development and easy operating environment based on standards and compatibility.
