Anguilla nigricans is a species of eels in the family Anguillidae.[1] It was described by Chu Yuan-Ting & Y.T. Wu in 1984.[2] It is a subtropical freshwater eel which is known from China . The eels spend most of their lives in freshwater, but migrate to the ocean to breed. Males can reach a maximum standard length of 52 centimetres.[1] Anguilla nigricans is a synonym of Anguilla japonica.
