The dwarf galagos are a group of eight species of strepsirrhine primates, native to Africa. They are classified in the genus Galagoides in the family Galagidae. In 2017, Judith C. Masters et al. argued that the eastern dwarf galagos (G. cocos, G. granti, G. orinus, G. rondoensis, and G. zanzibaricus) be moved to their own genus, Paragalago, based on genetic evidence and differences in vocalization. The two western/Congolian species, G. demidovii and G. thomasi, would remain in genus Galagoides.[1]

The first genus to be introduced to scientific literature was the Galago, that was talked about by Etinenne Geoffrey Saint. The genus was based on a smaller species from West Africa. Later, the species Galagoides, was introduced by Sir Andrew Smith in 1833. Smith wanted to have a barrier to differentiate the dwarf (G. Demidoff) and the lesser galagos from the 'true galagos.' The Otolemur was later introduced to indicate the greater galagos by Charles Coquerel in 1859. Before the 21st century, three new dwarf galagos were recognized as species.[2][3]
