Humibacillus is a genus of Gram positive, nonmotile, non-sporeforming bacteria. The bacteria are strictly aerobic and mesophilic. Cells of the genus are irregular rods. The genus name is derived from Latin humus (soil).

The type species of the genus, Humibacillus xanthopallidus, was originally isolated from both a paddy field in Saitama Prefecture, Japan and from a sediment collected from Lake Jusanko, Aomori Prefecture, Japan .[1] The genus is monospecific, with H. xanthopallidus as the only species.[2]
