Lycodes terraenovae, also called the Newfoundland eelpout, Atlantic eelpout or fish doctor,[3] is a species of fish in the family Zoarcidae (eelpouts).[4][5]

Description

Lycodes terraenovae is maximum 45.2 cm (17.8 in) long and dark brown-purple in colour. It has a double lateral line.[6]

Habitat

Lycodes terraenovae lives in coastal areas of the Atlantic Ocean;[7] it is bathydemersal, living at 150–2,604 m (492–8,543 ft).[8][9]

Behaviour

Lycodes terraenovae eats sponge remains, polychaetes, shelled molluscs, crustaceans, brittle stars and pycnogonids.[10]

Clavella pinguis is a copepod parasite of Lycodes terraenovae.[11]
