Genera

The Polleniinae are a subfamily of Calliphoridae, or blow flies. According to Whitworth,[1] the most distinguishing characteristic of this subfamily is its dull color, which is quite rare among most Calliphoridae.[1]:721 This subfamily includes the genera Melanodexia and Pollenia.

The family Polleniidae has been considered a subfamily of Calliphoridae in the past, containing various genera and species. As a result of phylogenetic analysis, the subfamily Polleniinae was elevated to family rank by Cerretti, et al., in 2019, and assigned the genera Alvamaja, Morinia, and Pollenia.[2]
