Altaro is a software company that develops backup and disaster recovery software for virtual, and multi-cloud infrastructures with more focus on Hyper-V and VMware solutions. The company is headquartered in San Gwann, Malta and it operates globally, with offices in 5 countries. It currently has 40,000 customers worldwide and 93 employees.[1][2][3] Altaro has received several international awards.[4]

History

Altaro was established in 2009 by David Vella along with Julian Pace Ross, Simon Attard, and Stephen Chetcuti Bonavita.[2][5]

Software

Altaro develops Altaro VM Backup (earlier known as Altaro Hyper-V Backup) a virtual machine backup software solution for Hyper-V and VMware.[5] It enables administrators to back up VMs on both VMware hypervisors and Microsoft Hyper-V from the same application. Prior to Altaro VM Backup, the company had produced Oops! Backup and Backup FS for home users and SMBs; both are no longer in production. Oops! Backup works as a time machine for Windows, enabling users to preview and restore versions of their files from different points in time. Backup FS is a backup tool which is used by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) looking to safeguard their PCs and Windows Servers from data loss.[6][7]

Altaro’s distribution, reseller, and Managed Service Provider partners are based all over the world. It has 7,000 partners to date and over 800 Managed Service Providers (MSPs) worldwide. Altaro’s partners are based all over the world, with 800 in Germany , 1000 in the US, 400 in the Netherlands, 500 in the UK, and the rest spread across the globe.[1][8][9]
