Placetel is a German provider of cloud communication technologies based in Cologne.

Products and services

Placetel provides cloud-based telephone and communication technologies and systems, particularly cloud telephony, unified communications, and online collaboration tools for corporate use.[2] The company primarily offers its own Webex-based UCaaS product,[3][4] which include a comprehensive collaboration suite that integrates various team communication technologies into one application.[5] Its VoIP-based phone system includes over 150 business functions,[6] such as video conferencing, chat,[7] and integrations with CRM, ERP & collaboration systems,[8][9][10] like Salesforce and HubSpot,[11] as well as Zendesk and Microsoft Teams.[6]

Placetel's cloud-based telephony system serves as an alternative to traditional telephone systems in offices and companies, enabling employees to make simultaneous calls from different locations and across multiple devices.[12][5] The company also provides telephone numbers, including the option to add international numbers from 40 different countries.[2]

In addition to communication technologies, Placetel provides hardware such as desk phones, cameras, headsets, and Wi-Fi access points.[6] These are also offered as rentals, including support services and replacement options.[13][14]

Access and availability

Placetel's services are available throughout Germany for small and large companies.[2] As a cloud-based system, it does not require physical installation on-site, allowing companies to set up and manage their communication systems remotely.[12] Users can book integrations with various business software applications via a central app store.[6] Independent software vendors can also offer their own apps in the app store.[11]

The Placetel systems are distributed digitally and via local partners.[15]

History

Placetel was founded in 2007 and launched its cloud telephone system in 2008. In 2012, Placetel entered into a partnership with Vodafone and set up a mobile extension for its system.[16] In 2013, BroadSoft acquired Placetel,[17] which later became part of Cisco after its acquisition in 2018.[3]

The company's international expansion began in 2021, with operations extending to the United Kingdom and France.[14]

In 2024, Gamma Communications, a British cloud communications provider, acquired Placetel from Cisco.[3] The acquisition enabled Gamma to expand its presence in European markets.[9]
