Rocket Factory Augsburg AG (RFA) is a German New Space start-up located in Augsburg. A multistage rocket, RFA One, is currently under development and planned to launch in 2022.[1]

RFA One is a three-stage rocket designed to launch small satellites and payloads of initially up to 1,300 kg into space. It is currently in development and set to launch from Andøya Space in Norway in late 2022. Being the first European company to develop and successfully test a Staged Combustion Engine, RFA will use their engine for first and second stage propulsion.[1]

General
Rocket Factory Augsburg was founded as a spin-off of OHB SE in 2018.
It has 155 employees from 30 international countries.[2]
The board consists of Dr. Stefan Tweraser (CEO), Jörn Spurmann (CCO), Dr. Stefan Brieschenk (COO), Hans Steininger (CEO of MT Aerospace), Marco Fuchs (CEO of OHB) and Jean-Jacques Dordain (Chairman). OHB functions as strategic investor, Apollo Capital Partners GmbH as financial investor.[1][2][3][4]
Locations
RFA is based in Augsburg, close to Munich. Since March 2021, the main factory and offices have been located at Berliner Allee 65, Augsburg.[1][5]
The company has a team based at the development and test site Esrange in Kiruna, Sweden, that successfully conducted an eight second hot-fire-test of RFA’s Staged Combustion Engine in March 2021.[1][6]
Since 30 June 2021 RFA also has a Portuguese subsidiary, RFA Portugal Unipessoal LDA, located in Matosinhos. It is tasked to develop and qualify composite structures for RFA One in collaboration with the technology centre CEiiA.[7][8]
