Knowledge Standards Foundation (KSF) [1][2] is a nonprofit organization defining technical standards for the free exchange of encyclopedic information. The Knowledge Standards Foundation was founded in September 2019 by Wikipedia ex-founder Larry Sanger and a growing team.

The KSF is a non-profit group of volunteers who explore the standards and tools for the future Encyclosphere project, its design and characteristics. It has a goal of creating a universal network of encyclopedias that gives an equal voice in expressing knowledge. The KSF was created in 2019. It is located in central Ohio and has the 501(c)(3) nonprofit status (in progress). Since 2019 the KSF volunteers have mostly worked on legal and structural issues.

List of Workgroups

The following KSF groups are responsible for:

  • Technical development and management (via admin interface) of the Encyclosphere.
  • Manage any other tools used directly by the KSF that require significant configuration, front-end design, and coding.
  • Discuss the technical requirements of and develop encyclopedia file standards
  • Support developers in creating tools such scrapers, APIs.

Projects

Since 2020 the KSF team launched the following projects [3]:

  • Encyclosearch - search engine for searching online encyclopedia
  • FactSeek - search engine to search free encyclopedia
  • MiniFeed - converting WordPress blog into a self-owned social media feed.
  • Software:Encycloreader - reader for encyclopedia content
  • Decentralizers.org - forum discussing Internet decentralization
