Hypixel Skyblock is a Minecraft massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG)[1] created by the Hypixel team, and released on June 11th, 2019[2]. Hypixel Skyblock typically has 15,000-30,000 concurrent players online at any given time. Being the most popular Minecraft MMORPG, it is compared to other Minecraft MMORPG's, most notably Wynncraft.

Gameplay

Players in Hypixel Skyblock spawn on an island, where they are instructed to obtain resources to reach another island, which has a minion, for automated resource collection, and a portal[3]. This gives the players access to the hub island, which provides many more opportunities for resource collection and progression. This has been criticized by Technoblade, in his video, from when Skyblock was initially released, for not sharing the same premise of resource preservation, as conventional skyblock does. According to some, it's strange to call it skyblock[4], due to how drastic the changes are in classic skyblock, to Hypixel's take on it.

Once on the hub island, you have access to different areas, the Coal Mines, farming areas, combat areas, and the dungeon portal. These all lead to separate areas, as island where you can progress further in their respective skill or category.

Development Issues

Early Joining

On multiple occasions, people realized that Skyblock was in the works, or soon to be releasing. This led to people finding ways to join the game early.

One user on the Hypixel Forums, claimed that an Admin had stated Skyblock would be coming in one hour from that time[5], this lead to more people being aware of the games release. Certain players used this information, to realize that the game was open by accessing the game using the /play command[6], rather than it's UI elements. This allowed certain players to gain access to Skyblock some time before its release.

Dante Commands

In Skyblock, during an event, a dictator named Dante, was present. Leading up to the Dante bossfight, two major commands were left unprotected to anyone who ran them.

One of these commands was /slimetest. /slimetest would allow a user to spawn a slime of a specified size. The purpose of this command was likely to test spawning a slime of a large size, and to determine what size the Dante slime should be. However, this command was able to crash servers very easily, which caused many issues.

Another command that was relevant during the Dante event was /killdante. This command was used to instantly kill the Dante boss, likely for testing the boss, without having to kill it. However, they also left this command open. This allowed anyone to kill the boss, affecting everyone in a server. This occurred when Technoblade fought the boss in his video, where an unknown person ran the command.
