Mergin Maps is a open-source geographic information system (GIS), mainly used for the collection of geospatial data in the field[1]. It empowers QGIS users with a sleek mobile data collection solution [2] for both Android [3] and iOS [4] users. It works offline and it's also compatible with existing QGIS projects. [5]

Functionality

Mergin Maps is used for collection of the data points, lines or polygons along with the custom forms in the field. Extract EXIF data. [6]

The mobile app allows you to take geotagged photos and save the location of photos.[7] Mergin Maps Input App, mobile application is based on QGIS rendering engine, is one of recommended field survey applications by QGIS.org. It can be connected with a range of external GNSS receivers to improve accuracy of the captured points. It supports most of the common external GPS tools which a user can plug in or simply connect to. [8] The data you capture in the field is shown on a map and can be exported to a wide variety of formats including CSV, Microsoft Excel, ESRI Shapefile, Mapinfo, GeoPackage, PostGIS, AutoCAD DXF, KML and many more. [9]

Software Components

Mergin Maps is a plugin to QGIS as well as a Cloud Environment. It all centers around QGIS. [10] Mergin Maps App is a field survey app for mobile devices [11]. The application is written in C++ and uses the QGIS library. It is GPLv2 licensed.

Mergin Maps Server is a web server used for storing and versioning geographical data. It comes with a SaaS version, which is run by Lutra Consulting Ltd.[12] [13]. It is also possible to deploy on custom servers with a Community, AGPLv2 licensed, version. [14]

Mergin Maps QGIS Plugin is a QGIS GPLv3 licensed plugin, which allows synchronisation of the projects from the server to desktop.

Users can ask questions about the software on GIS StackExchange with mergin-maps tag[15].

Attendance on Events

Mergin Maps was a national sponsor of FOSS4G UK 2022 [16], a bronze sponsor of FOSS4G Belgium 2022 [17]. Also, it was an exhibitor on Intergeo 2022 in Essen [18]. Mergin Maps had a booth on FOSS4G 2022 Firenze [19]
