Mr. Potato Head Saves Veggie Valley is a PC CD-ROM game.[1] Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato must work together to save Veggie Valley from a drought.[2] It was later released as part of Mac Kids Pack.[3]
Gameplay
The player controls Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato throughout the game and has the ability to interact with non-playable characters, collect items and play different kinds of minigames. Another feature is a wardrobe that the player can use to dress up Mr. Potato Head and, or Sweet Potato, which can be used for a disguise when necessary.
Plot
The game begins with Mr. Potato Head, his wife, Mrs. Potato Head and their daughter, Sweet Potato, watching sadly as a grumpy rain cloud is hanging over the country fair instead of their town, Veggie Valley, which hasn't gotten any rain for weeks. As their spuds need watering, Sweet Potato suggests that they go to the country fair to try to find a way to bring the cloud back to Veggie Valley, which Mr. Potato Head agrees to, though Mrs. Potato Head decides to stay behind in order to prepare some fertilizer for the spuds.
As Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato head off to the fair, they are stopped by an onion at a bridge, who won't allow anyone to cross the bridge unless they wear a specific costume. Using Mr. Potato Head's wardrobe, the two are able to disguise themselves with the proper outfit and the onion lets them pass through. Upon making it to the entrance of the fair, Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato realize that they don't have the money to pay for tickets (with the cost being 5 cents per vegetable) but learn that a certain kind of animal can get in free, so they disguise themselves as that animal and are allowed entry into the fair.
After getting in the fair, Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato get the idea to use the fair's "Zoom-a-Plane" ride to bring the cloud back home. The owner of the ride agrees to loan the ride to the two on the condition that they collect a few items: a propeller for the nose of the plane, two helmets for safety reasons, a picture of Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato (so the owner will remember who borrowed his ride), and something crunchy for him to eat.
After winning a pinwheel on the "Counting Pinball" carnival game, collecting pie tins as a prize for winning a pie-eating contest, taking a picture in the "Funny Photo Booth", and getting some popcorn, Mr. Potato Head and Sweet Potato are able to use the pinwheel as a propeller and the pie tins as helmets so they can use the plane. Also, using a jump rope that Sweet Potato won on the "Match & Catch Fishing" carnival game, the duo is able to pull the cloud over to the plane and fly all the way home.
After making it home to Veggie Valley, the citizens stack themselves like a tower to talk to the cloud and convince him to rain. The cloud, however, refuses to do so, because he is in a bad mood. Fortunately, Sweet Potato manages to get him to laugh by making a funny face and he begins to rain on the Potatoes' garden, watering the thirsty baby potatoes and ending Veggie Valley's drought.
