The Pattern is a consumer social app related to astrology.[1] It was created in 2017 by Lisa Donovan, co-founder of Maker Studios and former YouTube content creator.[1]
Using the time, date and place of a user's birth, the app generates a unique "pattern" — a user’s manual to their life, with information on personality traits, behavioural patterns, relationship habits and daily affirmations on how to navigate astrological "cycles". The Sunday Times has described as The Pattern as "Myers-Briggs meets Brené Brown".[2]
The Pattern is initially free with paid features.[2] The app allows users to create "custom profiles" of friends and family members who are not on the app and "time travel" to see the timings of individuals' past "patterns".[2] In 2021, Donovan announced that The Pattern intends to launch a dating product called Connect.[3][1]
The app was released as a public beta in 2017, and in May 2021 Vanity Fair reported that it had over 15 million generated profiles.[1]
